Caterpillars can be troublesome garden and lawn pests. They can destroy a whole landscape in no time at all as they feed on shrubbery and plant leaves. Caterpillars can quickly multiply and demolish the leaves of a small tree with ease. To protect your garden, there are many natural ways to repel caterpillars.
Garlic is a naturally acidic substance that kills and repels caterpillars. There are many ways to apply. In a spray bottle, mix two cups of water with two spoonfuls of garlic powder and add a teaspoon of dish soap. The dish soap is important as it will act as an adhesive and allow the garlic mixture to stick to the caterpillars and leaves. Spray the mixture on the caterpillars as well as the surrounding greenery and soil.
If you would like to try another method, you can use garlic cloves. Dice and sprinkle the cloves around the vegetation. This will only repel and not kill the caterpillars, unless the come into direct contact with the garlic. For best results, use fresh garlic. Repeat the sprinkling every few weeks to keep them away.
If you have gotten rid of caterpillars, but want to make sure they don't come back, use hot peppers. Hot pepper is a natural insect repellent. Grind and sprinkle hot peppers around the lawn and garden. Or, you can also mix two copes of water with two tablespoons of hot pepper powder (cayenne pepper, chili or jalapeno pepper). Spray onto plants and surrounding areas to keep caterpillars at bay and repeat every few weeks or after rain.
